Will You be Able To Deliver On Your Most Important Objectives?

By Eric Gerber

We’re all bred to be “can do” people who work hard and don’t quit. But those two qualities often aren’t enough to tackle really big goals. To identify and head off any shortfalls, you may need to conduct a long and hard self-assessment while there is still time to make any necessary adjustments.

One way to answer this question is to identify three to five key criteria that must be true in order for you to succeed. Some possibilities include:

—    Technical skills and/or resources
—    Motivation and grit
—    Specific experience and skills
—    Accurate comprehension of root causes
—    Sufficient prioritization
—    Team composition and talent

Assuming that you lead a team, encourage your members to conduct a similar self-evaluation. Coach them about the wisdom of asking for help while they still have time and breathing room.

Preparing for success isn’t just a catchphrase. It’s a genuine strategy that requires frank clarity and accurate self-awareness.
